WARNING

I am a one man opperation.  I do a very large amount of work in good time.  I make horn items that most other horners will not attempt and because of this I have a good many back orders at any given time.

Do to health related issues starting in 2012 I will be focusing less on quantity and more unique and quality items.  I'm not dying I'm just old, so in my infirmity I can't work the long hours in the shop that I have been.

Please take into consideration as there are probably several orders ahead of yours.  Please keep in mind that I am still one of the only horners who make all of the listed items and because of the growing interst in making powder horns and scrimshaw some cow horn is becoming hard to get.

Well the arthritis is kickin in, I have a cataract in my left eye, a bad hip and back, and a bad right knee.  On the plus side I'm working more than I ever have.  Things have really slowed down and I work on my good days and ride out the bad ones.  Some of the items on the website are for sale but mostly I'm just makin' and sendin'.  If you see something your interested in then e-mail me... I mean do it fast as I have to do all the updating now on the website myself and I have to do it inbetween shows.  Anything on the site that you may be interested may be gon already and I don't have time to put new items on at my leisure... cause I don't have any of that.

HORNWARE IS NOT GUARANTEED FOR LIFE.  BECAUSE EVERYONE USES AND ABUSES ITEMS TO A DIFFERENT DEGREE, HORN ITEMS HAVE NO WARRANTY.

IF I COULD NOT DESTROY THE ITEM BEFORE THE TIME OF SALE, IT SHOULD LAST FOR MANY YEARS!

Museums and Historical Sites get no preference!  New orders go to the back of the line just like anyone else!

At my Horn shop in West Augusta County, Virginia. (Southwestern Pennsyslvania)  I make a wide range of horn accoutrements that I call, "Common Goods."  These are items that everyone should or would have owned and carried with them at all times.  These horn goods are usually un-engraved and come in two varieties.

1.  Formed,  which is made by using the natural bends and shape of the cow horn.  Heat may be applied to flatten or shape it but very little work is done to complete the piece.  An example would be, "Cutting and cleaning the raw cow horn, wood plugs inserted into the open ends, a hole drilled into the side and a plug inserted.  The end result would be a salt or spice horn."

2.  Turned, which involves heating and making the cow horn round by inserting mandrels and then turning it round.  Then applying raised rings and decorative chip carving to the finished piece.

These un-engraved pieces weather they are formed or turned are still common goods.  An uncommon piece would be that which is formed or turned but decorated with relief carving or engraving.  (Scrimshaw)

What's available?

You will see very few photos of common goods on this site.  However, just because you don't see them, it doesn't mean that they are not available or can't be custom made.  Below you will find a list of the items that I might have in my trade/traveling box.  If I don't have it made I can usually make it.  Just remember if you order it I usually make three.  This way, I have extra to put in the box.
