I had to enter an art competition. I decided to make something unique so I thought I would make Capt. Ahab's whalebone leg.
I had seen all the legs that the motion picture industry had to offer and didn't think any would actually work. Working with bone, antler, and horn I already knew the weight of such things and I set out to make a functioning leg.
I had checked out a few working limbs and then went about making this one.
I engraved it in a 19th century style of that of a whaler and thought it turned out pretty well. However times being what they are I guess the judges for the competition didn't think it fit in and might offend so it was not picked as an entry ... every veteran and amputee I showed it to thought it was awesome.
It was completely engraved with passages from, "Moby Dick" and would actually fit onto a stump if you had the leather brace that it strapped to.

First person who saw it after my entry purchased it.
